Description

The Enterprise Business Solutions Course is an SMU-X course delivered in collaboration with OutSystems, offering students experiential learning opportunities by bridging classroom theory with real-world practice. Students will work collaboratively with OutSystems industry experts to address genuine business challenges, creating innovative, low-code application solutions. Guided by faculty and industry mentors, teams will progress from problem definition to a practical solution demonstration for real clients.

Learning Outcomes

Experience real-world problem solving through student consultancy projects, "learning by doing". Students will tackle real-world challenges and solve complex problems. Apply classroom learning and research to genuine business challenges to envision innovative IT solutions using the OutSystems Development Cloud (ODC). This involves applying knowledge and skills to specific problem statements. Understand the changing role of IT modes of delivering solutions by engaging in practical, hands-on learning that differs from traditional curriculum-based courses. The course focuses on creating solutions that improve the overall experience for various stakeholders, indicating a modern approach to IT delivery. Apply a structured approach to problem definition and solution design when building innovative IT solutions, with a focus on designing problem statements that involve multiple stakeholders and perspectives, aiming to improve the overall experience for everyone involved. Build innovative web and mobile application solutions using the OutSystems Development Cloud (ODC). Students are required to develop at least two applications (web and mobile). Utilize specific services within a cloud platform, notably by incorporating AI capabilities (e.g., LLMs) into their application solutions developed on the OutSystems Development Cloud. Develop self-directed learning skills Learn how to work collaboratively with OutSystems industry experts, faculty, and other mentors. Students will receive technical support through clinic sessions and will deliver their IT solutions through final presentations where they demonstrate their work to relevant stakeholders. Learn how to navigate the complexities and evolving requirements inherent in real-world IT projects, with progress tracked through weekly reviews and midpoint reviews to ensure adjustments can be made, demonstrating an ability to handle project fluidity.
